Auction - The Power of Competition

March 13th, 2007 by Jonathon Moore

The first recorded historical data, comes from the writings of the Greek Historian Herodotus ,tells us that the first auctions were documented about 500BC when he wrote of his visits to the fabled city of Babylon and witnessed an auction.

In selling property two major ingredients are involved, price and profile. I have yet to meet anyone who can accurately predict the eventual selling price and it is extremely hard to sell a secret.

Auction is the purest form of marketing .

Agents who sell a property at the asking price or at the first inspection are, in my opinion , doing their vendors a disservice, hence a good buy for the buyer. To me, that doesn’t make sense when the vendor is paying the commission. A well run auction campaign will achieve a premium price through competition.

Auction comes from the word “Auctio”in the Latin Dictionary which means to increase.
